Two Paths

Same Student. Two Very Different Years.

The Scripted Path: a student alone at a cluttered desk buried in standardized bubble tests, SAT prep books, and club membership and perfect attendance certificates.
The Scripted Path (Compliance)
The Psychological Trap

School teaches students to excel at following rigid instructions, memorizing formulas, and answering other people's questions to secure a perfect "A."

The Consequence

High-achieving students enter unscripted college or corporate pipelines, only to freeze under perfectionism, terrified of making mistakes because traditional schooling treated failure as a permanent penalty.

The Builder's Path: a team gathered around a product roadmap board covered in sticky notes, customer interview notes, wireframe sketches, and laptops running design and code.
The Ascent Builder Path (High Agency)
The Experiential Sandbox

Fellows are dropped into a supportive, unscripted venture ecosystem. They unlearn the fear of being wrong by actively testing hypotheses and pivoting based on real-world feedback.

The Outcome

Students build deep resilience, authentic grit, and a bias for action. They enter college not as passive compliance consumers, but as self-directed leaders who know how to create value.

The Problem With "Doing Everything Right"

Straight A's Won't Build Leadership.
Permission Won't Build High Agency.

Our education system was built for an industrial era that rewarded compliance, neat answers, and memorized formulas. If your teen is a great student, they've mastered the art of answering other people's questions and following rubrics to get the "A."

The problem? The real world gives no rubrics.

When high-achieving students hit college and adulthood, they encounter unscripted environments where no one tells them what to do. Many freeze under perfectionism, terrified of making mistakes because school treated failure as a penalty rather than data.

Real success, leadership, and emotional maturity come from stepping into messy, ambiguous territory, learning to ask bold questions, and building solutions with your own two hands.

Founder & Executive Director

Suchita Garg

Starbound Founders is led by a working industry executive, not a passive academic. Suchita holds an MS from Bentley University and an MBA, and brings 14+ years of corporate diagnostics and strategy leadership to the way this fellowship is built and run.

She is also a parent — which is why the program is designed around the question every parent actually asks: will this make my teenager more capable when no one is telling them what to do?

Why Now?

Give Them the Sandbox to Fail
While the Stakes Are Still Low.

In high school, a failed hypothesis or a rejected cold email costs nothing. It is the ultimate low-stakes environment to build the emotional muscles of resilience, public speaking, and strategic discernment.

Do you want your student's first experience with real-world ambiguity to happen in high school with experienced mentors guiding their reflections — or at age 22, competing in an unforgiving job market?

Starbound Founders gives them the foundation to enter college not as passive consumers of education, but as self-directed leaders who know exactly who they are and how to create value.
